Hearing on Alcoa Case Scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10, 2010

Students working in Duke’s Environmental Law & Policy Clinic under the supervision of its Director, Ryke Longest, have worked to assist client Yadkin Riverkeeper since the Spring Semester of 2009. All students enrolled in the Clinic this semester are working with this client. Yadkin Riverkeeper will be asking permission of the Office of Administrative Hearings to allow students the opportunity to participate in oral argument.

Erin Brockovich Visits Gulf in Advance of Winston-Salem Presentation

Erin Brockovich, namesake of the Oscar-winning movie that made her an internationally famous environmental activist, will be presenting a free speech at Brendle Recital Hall at Wake Forest University on Tuesday, June 29 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. following her current visit to address Louisiana fishermen who worry they are endangering their health with exposure to dispersants used to break up BP’s massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yadkin Riverkeeper Calls On Alcoa to Clean Up Its Contamination

The Yadkin Hydroelectric Project is comprised of four hydroelectric stations, dams and reservoirs along a 38-mile stretch of the Yadkin River, the second largest River basin in North Carolina. The water reservoirs are High Rock, Tuckertown, Narrows and Falls. The Narrows Dam is on Badin Lake.
