Bill Calls for Study of Contaminants at Alcoa's Badin Plant

New legislation calls for a study of contamination and cleanup efforts at and around Alcoa's closed aluminum smelter works in Badin in Stanly County.

The study would attempt to catalog pollutants that have made their way into the area's ground and water and determine whether the Alcoa plant increased cancer rates among company employees or area residents, the bill's co-sponsors, state Sens. Fletcher Hartsell Jr. and Stan Bingham, said Wednesday.
