Join Yadkin Riverkeeper for our member-only Historic Paddles that explore the history of the Yadkin River. This year’s TOUR is sponsored by Great Outdoor Provision Co and Leonard Ryden Burr. Supporting sponsors include Ilderton, Piedmont Triad Regional Council Bob Pate Memorial Fund for the Yadkin River, Carolina Heritage Vineyard & Winery, High Rock Outfitters, Foothills Brewing and Waterkeeper Alliance.
This members only paddle and hike is guided by Yadkin Riverkeeper, Brian Fannon, and local historical experts. It begins and ends at the York Hill access and explores wetlands, flood plains, river islands and the remnants of the original toll bridge across the river. Participants will tour the new Yadkin River Park at the historic Trading Ford District, featuring the Wil-Cox Bridge that is now open to pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as the Civil War era Ft. York, with intact earthworks and several miles of hiking trials. Reception with free beer follows at High Rock Outfitters in Lexington.
Paddlers with their own boats are charged a fee per person per day to cover insurance, shuttle, processing fees and entry to post-paddle events. If you have paid your Yadkin Riverkeeper Membership Fee ($35), the paddling fee is discounted. There are discounted fees for volunteer to help with event logistics.
For participants in our members-only paddles, boats will be provided free of charge.
