Happy Valley Cleanup

  • Tony Jones Farm 3555 North Carolina 268 Lenoir, NC, 28645 United States (map)

Heading back to the waters above the dam, we will paddle the clear waters and search for all the litter that we can fit in our boats. At 1:00 we’ll lead a group of people on this gentle section from Community Park to the Jones Farm the site of the Happy Valley Jamboree. Stick around after to listen to some live music. Some of us will be camping Friday night* so we’ll be ready for a paddle the next day. This is the same section we did last year and if the drought conditions continue, we’ll have the opportunity to fill even more bags. For those who have not done a clean-up, the fun is when you realize that it’s like a scavenger hunt and everything that’s not natural is what you are looking for. Teamwork comes in when it’s a really large piece of trash, and comradery is built while sharing stories of the strange things that have made its way into your trash bag. Anybody want to guess how many balls we’ll collect this on this clean-up.

(*Small fee to the event organizers of the Jamboree for camping with access to the river and D - lux portalets)

Additional information will be provided the week before the event to registered participants. Upper Yadkin Outfitters may be able to provide a limited number of boats to volunteers, but we are encouraging volunteers to BYO boat.

Bring some snacks and a curious mind to discover what litter that may have gotten into the stream.
