On May 31, Yadkin Riverkeeper will host a “Know Your Watershed” and paddle event at the RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls (645 Erwin Temple Church Rd, Woodleaf, NC 27054). Many of you may know this dam and swimming spot as Bull Hole. Nicole will be leading a “Know Your Watershed” presentation to engage the public with the South Yadkin River watershed restoration plan and inform participants about the threats to the river, why water quality is important, how they impact the health of the watershed, and ways to be water protection advocates. The development of the South Yadkin watershed restoration plan is being funded by a grant from the NC Land and Water Fund.
The presentation will begin at 10am at the RiverPark, followed by a 15 minute “walk and talk” with the RiverPark board, and end with a 4.5 mile paddle to the HWY 601 access on the South Yadkin River. The paddle portion will run from 11am to 1:30pm. The presentation is open to the public for free and the paddle is $10 for participants with their own boats.
If you have registered to paddle, check in at the registration tent at the RiverPark between 8:30am and 9:30am. Staff will direct you to drop your gear off at the put-in at the RiverPark. Then, the driver of your vehicle can park at the take-out, the Hwy 601 access. A shuttle provided by Catawba College will bring you back up to the RiverPark for the start of the program. We are excited to share the South Yadkin River with you!
